Trailridge Elementary School Celebrates 20 Years in Education

Lee’s Summit, MO September 3, 2013: Trailridge Elementary School PTA has been busy over the summer! This year, our school celebrates 20 years in education and we went BIG to celebrate.

The focus at Trailridge has always been and will continue to be maximizing student achievement in a nurturing environment. To that end, beautification efforts inside our building have not been a focus and PTA wanted to change that.

With reading being a critical skill set, it is important that it be fun and engaging for children. To foster this, we added a special area in the library just for kids to relax and read a book. PTA purchased two full size chaise lounges, three fun ottomans and a colorful 8×10 area rug that compliments the freshly painted room. It’s the perfect reading space.

We believe the entire Trailridge staff is the backbone to student success. Without them, we, as parents, would be lost. They need a space to unwind, regroup and rejuvenate. The lounge area had not been touched in 20 years and an Extreme Makeover was needed. Just like the TV show, we did this by partnering with local businesses within our community.

And all those partners stepped up…in a HUGE way! Our PTA team worked throughout the 2012-2013 school year to secure donations for a staff lounge make-over. We were amazed with the response we received. In no particular order, the following businesses played a key role making things happen by way of DONATIONS and or SUPPORT:

Crowley Furniture

Home Depot
Certa Pro Painters
Shamrock Cabinets
Summit Custom Homes
Del’s Appliances Heating & Cooling
Habitat for Humanity
Mo-Kan Flooring
Lee’s Summit School District
Office Depot
Bledsoe Rental’s

And from our Trailridge families – labors of love – with a hand crafted buffet table and accessories, tear out of the old lounge, stained and lacquered cabinets, installation of mosaic backsplash, helped paint, and coordinated resources, just to name a few.

The Lee’s Summit School District and our custodial team offered amazing support. When we were met with a challenge, they stepped up by lending a hand.

In all, more than 50 individuals contributed to our projects. The difference between the before and after is astounding! We are thrilled with the results.
